The story of Pencil Mate started in a boat building workshop in Falmouth, Cornwall. The necessity for wearing glasses during woodworking didn’t really go well with the convenience of keeping a pencil behind one’s ear – there’s only room for one or the other.
Inevitably, the pencil was usually relegated to being placed either on a workbench somewhere, next to the bandsaw or in a pocket – often with painful consequences.
The amount of time spent looking for a pencil seemed to increase exponentially, as did the frustration of everyone in the vicinity, tired of hearing;
“Can I borrow your pencil, mate?”
